The Project consists of the construction and operation of two pipelines, one for natural gas (714 km) and one for natural gas liquids (540 km). The two pipelines will run parallel from the Camisea fields, located 431 km east of Lima, to the coast of Peru south of Lima, where the NGL pipeline will end at a fractionation plant. From the fractionation plant area, the natural gas pipeline will turn north and run along the coastline to the Lima City gate. The natural gas pipeline will be designed for the initial transportation of 285 million cubic feet per day. The NGL pipeline will be designed for the initial transportation of 50,000 barrels per day. According to the concession agreements, the Commercial operation shall start no later than August 2004. Photo shows pipe to be burried stringing up Rumichaca (4,800 masl)

The Pipeline route selected by TGP starts at the Camisea site in the Department of Cuzco and traverses the Ayacucho, Huancavelica, lca and Lima departments. The elevation profile for the pipelines reaches its highest point at 4,800 meters above sea level in the Andes. The route selection was based on the maximization of the stability, safety and reliability of the system and minimization of the social, cultural and environmental impacts. It is also considered to bypass the sites of historical and archaeological significance and to minimize the number of water crossings as well as the quantity of vegetation clearing.

General Project Location - EIA gas Pipeline Camisea - Lima

The design and construction of the gas and NGL transportation system is being carried out by Techint, an experienced engineering and construction contractor that has successfully completed numerous projects of this type including numerous trans-Andean pipelines in South America. The pipeIine construction is scheduled to take place between April 2002 and May 2004 and has been divided into three segments: rain forest, mountain and coastal. Construction work will be scheduled according to accessibility of the construction sites and delivery of materials. Various temporary camps will be constructed along the pipeIine route to accommodate staff and maintenance facilities for the construction phase. Construction will be completed using various equipment spread on each of the regions.
